SHIITAKE WOODEN DOWELS+WAX, 30 pcs.
SHIITAKE (Lentinula edodes) is the best-known gourmet mushroom, which tastes a bit like meat when fried. Shiitake dowels are wood dowels infected with shiitake mycelium. For inoculation use about 1 m long and 10-15 cm in diameter hardwood log. Aspen is best, but alder or any other available hardwood will do. Every 10 cm, drill a dowel-shaped hole, push the dowel in and fill the top with wax. The log is then placed in a plastic bag and left to grow out in a warm place at room temperature for a couple of months. When the pile is fully grown, it is lifted to rest on a tree trunk or bricks, out of the sun.
